SHE’S A BIG BOY
She’s a big boy is the first single to be released for the EP, and came out on the 20th of November along with animated music video by mcbess.
RAVIOLO
Raviolo is the upcoming third release by Mcbaise. Themed around one of his favorite food, the ravioli, and as such the opus dresses itself in a smooth and tender shell with a rich and complex filling. Coming from the south of France, the ravioli was one of Mcbaise’s foundation, the city he comes from is adjacent to Italy and does make a particularly tasty version of the iconic dish. Recorded at the Strongroom in London Shoreditch, the inspiration behind Raviolo takes from early 2000s French house music to nowadays icons like Connan Mockasin. The idea was to make something groovy with the right amount of “Jazz”.
It opens with “She’s a Big Boy”, a song that seems to depict the power struggle inside any relationship but that might also be an ode to the strap-on dildo. An upbeat tune that resolves with synth break and a plethora of string instrument solo, a salute to fusion and Italo Disco music.
“Le Thème de Mcbaise” brings the beat down and pulls you in a universe in between outerspace and the lobby of 70s building in Paris at night. Joyful and defeatist from the melody to the lyrics, it carries the mood of the French Riviera from Mcbaise’s perspective, the structure of the song itself is a reference to life in the south, a bit of hope and excitement before a slow repeat of a neverending cycle. “Lait de Tigre” Closes the EP, a joyfull goodbye to the good times knowing that they’ll be back again soon.
“Lait de Tigre” ( meaning Tiger’s Milk, stands for a strong Pastis, a band’s favourite) plays on the contrast of the modern synth against the old cartooney sound of the guitar, wanting to set itself in the living-room of Tom&Jerry. Raviolo will be released on January 17th
NEWS
Good times in the south of France, TINALS invited mcbaise to play two gigs during their amazing event in Nîmes.
From CHRONOS (FR):
(EN) We cannot talk about Saturday at TINALS (“This Is Not A Love Song” music festival) without telling you a few words about mcbaise, which we saw twice because it was so beautiful. They create for you a real cocoon from which you’ll find it hard to leave. Everywhere on the internet, they are described as the French version of Mac DeMarco. If the comparison is flattering, we want to tell you that they are much more than that. They do not have the LOL side of the toothy smiling Canadian (not in their music at least). They carry a light touch of bad temper but mostly a big glow of ambition. And so you know we have high hopes for them.
From Sound of Violence (FR):

Pop as always with the London based and Cannes exiled mcbaise. If the name of the band may be reminiscent of a gangsta-rap group, it's nothing of the sort. mcbaise delivers silky pop as we know it so well in France, from Tahiti 80 to Le SuperHomard. Their album from last year, Windowsill, is a real treat with some Beach Boys sonics. On stage, the band is just as good with some funky and groovy sides that are not found on disc. They seem to take great pleasure to be on stage. The pleasure is shared.

Mcbess is an illustrator and a musician. He originates from the south of France and currently lives in London. From his first musical experiences on drums, saxophone and percussion in a jazz band, to being the front man of numerous London based rock bands. It has been quite the ride.
Back in winter 2014, Mcbess headed to his native south of France to record the album "Seabass". Between two family dinners, he captured the post-apocalyptic mood residing in this dormant off-season resort named Cannes. Giving birth to “Mcbaise”, a sandbox project, materialising in his smoothest impulses with the right touch of “weird”.
"Windowsill", written in a similar fashion, is an intricate cocktail of nostalgic references, abstract humour and jazz chords. An ode to 18 years drowned in the south, romanticising memories infused with all the disdain he felt for that part of the world. The album is all about contrast and stories of growing up in a place ruled by boredom under the sun.
Recorded and mixed in London with Alexis Muffat-Meridol. The pair went on to use unconventional recording technics to deliver Mcbess’ sonic vision; a Mellotron, marimbas and 80’s synth running over a solid rhythm section. He invited Matt Christensen and Gregory Talon to record on drums, while he delivered his multi-talented skills on all of the other instruments.
Mcbess’s Mcbaise is set to hit the road and perform the very first live shows in Europe and South America.
